Keeshond Angels Rescue and Transport Membership

Why become a member?

The single most important benefit to KART membership is knowing that your support of the organization will save the lives of keeshonden in need.  Many keeshonden are put to death each year because:

bullet

The owner was unable to provide for the keeshond.

bullet

The owner no longer provided the proper care for the keeshond.

bullet

The owner relinquished the keeshond because of the dog’s age, health, or temperament.

bullet

The owner could not find their keeshond after it strayed from home.

bullet

The breeder did not care about the welfare of the dogs he/she sold because they were sold for the greedy purpose of making money.

bullet

The shelter or humane society was unable to locate the owner.

How does a member help Keeshond Angels?

Since Keeshond Angels is an all-volunteer organization it is sustained by its members and benefactors.  Members support KART in different ways:

bulletFirst, annual membership fees are used to help pay for the many costs of rescue operations such as veterinary care, shelter fees, grooming, medicine, advertising, food and supplies such as collars, leashes, etc.  Without the membership fees we would not be able to help save as many keeshonden as we do.
bullet

Second, members can participate in rescue activities on a limited basis.  Being a member of a non-profit group lends credibility when rescuing a keeshond in need or participating in supporting activities.  Some of the activities include
bullet

Assisting with special eventsCoordinating adoption days

bullet

Processing adoption and/or foster applications

bullet

Contacting personal and veterinary references

bullet

Performing home visits

bullet

Visiting local shelters to verify a keeshond in need

bullet

Providing transportation or overnight stays for keesies being rescued or adopted

bullet

Hosting local fundraisers

bullet

Donating expertise in needed areas

bullet

Third, selected members participate in rescue activities on a day-to-day basis.  These are special Kees Angels who
bullet

Provide foster care for the homeless keeshond and evaluate the dog’s medical and behavioral needs until it is ready for a furever home

bullet

Serve as a Director of a KART Region

bullet

Serve as an Officer or Director of KART

bullet

Fourth, all members in good standing are eligible to vote for the Officers and Directors at the annual meeting that is conducted online and/or by conference call.  Junior members do not have voting privileges.

If I already am doing rescue, why should I become a KART Member?

The small, independent rescuer who is not incorporated or not a member of a 501c3 organization will be able to

bullet Ease the difficulty of working with area shelters by validating their existence as a member of a licensed, incorporated rescue group
bullet Enjoy the tax benefits of a non-profit organization without having to deal with the financial costs or recordkeeping burdens that entails.  The individual rescuer would not have to be a Regional Director.  All that is required is completion of membership application (very basic) and payment of the small annual fee.  Again, this lends credibility to their status as a rescuer associated with a non-profit group.  KART will provide a membership verification letter to each person/family that becomes a member.
bullet Use their own criteria for adoption, references, home visits, contracts, and adoption fees.  Adoption fees will NOT be sent to KART but go directly to the rescuer as it currently does.

There will be no requirements demanding each rescuer do it “KART’s way.”  That is because what works in KS might not be feasible in AZ or CA or NY.  There are definite regional differences that must be respected.
